HYDE PARK - Dominick Angelo Joseph Ferrari, 65, of Hyde Park, died peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. The owner and operator of Nicks Auto Body in Hyde Park for nearly 30 years, Mr. Ferrari built his business from a single tow truck into a complex on Route 9G that now houses several independently-owned automotive shops. Mr. Ferrari was a 1956 graduate of Poughkeepsie High School, and he served four years in the U.S. Army, earning an honorable discharge. Mr. Ferrari was an avid fisherman, often traveling throughout the Northeast to fish for salmon and trout. He was an excellent gardener who grew hundreds of tomatoes and other vegetables that he gave to friends and family. Mr. Ferrari enjoyed exercising and riding his bike around Hyde Park and Poughkeepsie. He was a proud and dedicated grandfather to five grandchildren. Mr. Ferrari was a member of the Poughkeepsie Elks Club and the Regina Coeli Catholic Church in Hyde Park. He was an active volunteer at St. Francis Hospital, and he was a past volunteer with the Roosevelt Fire Company. Born on July 1, 1937, he was the son of Joseph and Elisa Ferrari of Poughkeepsie. Both his parents predeceased him. On Mar. 29, 1959, Mr. Ferrari married the former Joan Hart of of Poughkeepsie. Mrs. Ferrari died on Sept. 24, 1994. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Dianne Ferrari of Cave Creek, Ariz.; two daughters, Marianne Reichelt and husband, Karl of Rhinebeck, and Rosemarie Ferrari and fiance, Glenn Dobrydney of Hyde Park, and five grandchildren, Thomas, Jeffrey, Mia and Andrew Reichelt of Rhinebeck and Ava Dobrydney of Hyde Park, who was born on July 23, 2002. He is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Anna and Jay Hite of Poughkeepsie; his partner, Anna May Hess of Wappingers Falls and her family; mother-in-law, Mary Hart of Rhinebeck, and a sister-in-law, Patricia Hart of Rhinebeck. Calling hours are Sunday, Aug. 4, from 4-7 p.m. at Sweets Funeral Home, Route 9, Hyde Park. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Aug. 5, at 10 a.m. at Regina Coeli Church, Route 9, Hyde Park, with Father Michael Palazzo officiating.
